Join a live cooking demonstration with Adobo-Fish-Sauce on Thursday, May 12 at 2PM ET / 11AM PT

There’s so much beauty in giving circle communities gathering around a table, sharing a meal and building true relationships as we discuss the issues that matter most.

At We Give Summit, Adobo-Fish-Sauce will lead a live cooking demonstration with poetic invitations. Adobo-Fish-Sauce: a duo artist project by Ricky Orng and Anthony Febo, practices discovery, healing, and self-preservation through spoken word and their relationship with food, culture, and heartbreak.

Join us to prepare white rice and beans for lunch! You’ll need two (2) stirring spoons and two (2) pots with lids/covers. You must register for We Give Summit to attend.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Can of Pinto or Red Kidney Beans
  • 1/2 Sweet Potato
  • 1/2 White Onion
  • 4 Garlic Cloves Peeled
  • Jasmine Rice (1 Cup per serving)
  • Chicken or Vegetable Stock
  • Small Can of Tomato Sauce
  • Adobo
  • Sazón
  • Salt/Pepper
  • Oregano
  • Olive Oil

Part 1:

  • Wash and dry produce
  • Peel, mince or grate garlic
  • Halve and dice onions
    while cutting onions, ask yourself when was the last time you allowed yourself to cry?
  • Halve and dice sweet potato

Part 2:

  • Open can of beans and pour out the water. rinse beans in can and pour out that water too
    as you pour out the water, give gratitude to that which no longer serves you.
  • Pour a drizzle of oil into a medium pot and turn it on medium heat
  • Add Garlic and while waiting for garlic to sizzle, wash the rice.
  • Washing the Rice – One Cup per person – in a strainer.
    Wash the rice in a circular motion under the faucet while repeating with three breaths – I can clear the cloudy.
  • When rice is washed and garlic starts to sizzle, add Potato next along with half of the Tomato Sauce to give something for the potatoes to cook in
  • Add Onion into the pot and the rest of the tomato sauce
  • Add 1/2 cup of stock (veggie or chicken) and the beans.
  • Season generously with adobo, sazón, and oregano

  • Stir thoroughly, cover with lid, keep at medium heat

Part 3:

  • Drizzle Oil to Lightly to cover the bottom of the Pot on Medium/High Heat
  • Add Rice into the Pot, make sure there isn’t any pockets of water in the rice
  • Add Dash of Adobo, Salt, Pepper
  • Add same measurement of Water into the rice, lightly mix
  • Once you hear the water bubbling, let water to steam out for a couple of minutes. once water all on top is gone, stir the rice, bring to medium low heat for another 10 minutes and completely covered
